Getting to San Miguel de Allende
The closest airports to San Miguel are in Leon, 70 miles away and Queretaro , 45 miles away. Flights out of Leon are less frequent and slightly more expensive than out of Mexico City. American Airlines and Continental Airlines fly in from Dallas and Houston. Mexicana, Taesa, and Aviacsa Airlines fly in from the US West Coast. Delta flies in from Atlanta.
By Bus from the Mexico City airport you can get a first-class bus ticket on the line called "Primera Plus" buses leave every 45 minutes to 1 hour throughout the day and will take you non-stop to Queretaro in less than 3 hours. You can take a bus from Queretaro to the San Miguel bus depot in about 1 hour, or a taxi to your door in San Miguel in about 45 minutes. "ETN Turi Star Lujo" bus service provides direct routes to San Miguel de Allende with a brief stop in Guanajuato
Discover San Miguel by Car
Most people tend to fly to either Leon, Mexico City or Queretaro and then either rent a car locally or use regional buses to get around, however if you are the adventurous type and you're an experienced driver in Mexico, you'll have few problems reaching San Miguel. It's only 2 hours from Leon and 1 from Queretaro, and maybe a 4 to 5 hours drive from Mexico City. A rental car will allow you to explore San Miguel de Allende, its attractions and the surrounding areas. Rental cars are available at almost all airports and in San Miguel de Allende.
